How to Apply for Financial Aid

Scholarship Aid

Scholarships and/or instituional aid are available to all accepted degree-seeking students of the seminary, but must be applied for annually. Those students seeking only a certificate or diploma, or are only auditing classes, do not qualify. Prior to March 1 for the Fall semester and November 1 for the Spring semester and summer trailer, new students must submit all application materials - application, references, and transcripts - and be accepted to the seminary to qualify. You may submit your scholarship application before all your admissions materials are submitted however. In addition, all students (new, continuing, and returning) must complete the NTS General Scholarship/Grant Application by the above deadlines every year in order to qualify.

In general, students must have a 3.0 GPA to be considered for scholarship awards. All new students who submit their applications by the appropriate deadline will be considered for awards. Applications for new and returning students submitted after the deadlines will be considered on a case-by-case basis and applications may be accpeted, denied, reduced, or awarded the following semester.

Federal Student Aid

Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loans are available to eligible degree-seeking students enrolled in at least 5 credit hours (half-time) during the fall and spring semesters. If you are seeking a certificate or diploma only, or are only auditing classes, you do not qualify for federal aid. If a FAFSA has been filed for the student, eligibility will be calculated and the loan amount will be offered to the student in an official letter sent along with the student’s billing statement, or in a separate package.

To secure a Federal Direct Loan, complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online. The school code for Nazarene Theological Seminary is G02494. The NTS Financial Aid Office will then calculate your eligibility based on information obtained in from your FAFSA and your enrolled hours. NTS will prepare a package for you and send this along with your semster billing statements. The Financial Aid office will contact you with information on what additional steps need to be taken to secure a Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan after you have read through the documents sent to you and have returned any necessary documentation to NTS. If you are a new student and/or new borrower at NTS, you will need to complete Direct Loan entrance counseling and sign a Master Promissory Note at

Semester Loan

For those students who are seeking a payment plan to cover tuition and fees, you may secure a short-term loan. This loan requires the student to pay back to America’s Christian Credit Union (ACCU) the loan amount borrowed by the end of the semester. Contact the Student Accounts Office at 816-268-5425 for more information. While application is made through America’s Christian Credit Union, NTS must approve the loan before ACCU will finalize it and will consider these requests on a case-by-case basis. Your request for a loan may be denied and ACCU will inform you of the reasons for this denial.
